Fair Trade workshop
This week Year 5 had a visit from Mrs Greenlees who spoke to us all about the benefits of choosing Fairtrade products. We learned that some farmers in tropical countries only earn 62p per day but if a plantation is operated to the Fairtrade Standards, the farmers are guaranteed to receive a fair wage.
We now know that if our goods from the supermarket have the Fairtrade logo, then it means that the people who helped to produce the product have been paid enough money to look after their families. Some Y5 children have already convinced their adults at home to buy Fairtrade tea, coffee and chocolate instead of their usual brand!
As part of our Lenten initiative, next month Year 5 will be selling some Fairtrade products on a pop-up stall after school - details to follow soon!
