South Ribble Tag Rugby Tournament at Hutton

The sports events are now coming thick and fast. The latest competition saw our school team compete in the South Ribble Tag Rugby Tournament at Hutton Grammar School last Thursday. The team was made up of boys and girls from Years 5 & 6, some of whom, until recently, had not played rugby before. The group games against Howick, New Longton and Little Hoole were all fiercely contested. Unfortunately, narrow defeats meant that we just missed out on a place in ‘The Cup’ section of the Tournament but we had done enough to progress through to ‘The Plate’. We came up against our close rivals St. Teresa’s in the semi-final. The team stormed back in the second-half to force the game into extra-time. After a further five minutes of stalemate the game had to be decided on the ‘toss of a coin’. Unfortunately, our Captain Fantastic, Luke Fleming, was unable to guess correctly and we headed for a play-off game as opposed to the final. However, the team dug deep one more time to record a resounding victory against Longton, scoring some wonderful tries along the way. A great way to end an enjoyable day. Mr Gaughan would like to thank all the parents and grandparents who came along to support the team. Despite the cold, it sounds like it was enjoyed by all. He would also like to say a big thank you to Becky and Phil for taking the time to prepare and coach the children. Yet again, all the children selected for the team were a credit to the school. Well done Luke Fleming, Reece Worthington, Myles Devereux, Matthew Myerscough, Charley Holmes, Sophie Richardson, Dylan Bellis-Walker, Megan Fleming, Jessica Fox and Alexa Wilcock.
