Year 6 Artwork

Year 6 have been studying the work of Henry Moore, as part of their focus on World War II.

Whilst Moore is famous for his work on sculptures, during World War II, he was commissioned to create drawings of people in London who were using underground stations as bomb shelters. The scratchy dark drawings were able to powerfully capture the feelings of anxiety that people must have felt.

Whilst Henry achieved this scratchy appearance using water colours and crayons, year 6 have been experimenting with charcoal, creating a group image and portraying how they would feel in the underground stations.

Prior to this, they had experimented in their sketch books, using shading and dark and light to create 3D form, similar to what we can see in Moore’s work.
