Father Gerard Barry is honoured

A very Special Armistice Tribute

The Year 6 children paid a beautiful tribute yesterday to all who have lost their lives fighting for our country.  They wrote some beautiful poems, some thoughtful reflections on their family experiences and some lovely prayers.  They then shared with us the emotional story of Father Gerard Barry.  Father Gerard was the parish priest at St Mary Magdalen's at the outbreak of World War 2.  He then went to work on an evacuation programme for children in Liverpool.  In 1944 he joined the armed forces and fought in the Normandy Landings.  He was killed in action in September 1944 ages just 33.

We have dedicated a soldier statue to his memory which Father Michael blessed for us  in the assembly.

Thank you Year 6 for a very respectful, thoughtful assembly and to all pupils and parents who joined us and showed great respect.
